Metadata: Add or edit audio track metadata
ReelCrafter uses ID3 tags to manage metadata associated with your audio files, which allows us to attach metadata even to typically non-metadata-supporting formats like .WAV files.
Every audio file you upload to ReelCrafter is scanned for metadata. If metadata is present, ReelCrafter ingests it and stores it, making it available for anyone who downloads your track in the future from our platform.
Accessing and editing metadata in ReelCrafter is dependent on your plan:
- Starter Plan: Users can view any metadata included in their tracks. However, the editing of metadata is not supported on the Starter Plan.
- Professional Plan: Users can edit metadata directly within ReelCrafter, eliminating the need for a separate program.
Remember that any changes you make to your metadata will be attached to the file stored in ReelCrafter. If someone downloads the file in the future, the downloaded metadata will always match the current metadata in the ReelCrafter app at the time of download.
Accessing and editing metadata
To view and edit your metadata, head to the Track Detail page by:
- Navigate to the audio library from the left-hand navigation menu by clicking Audio.
- Locate and click on the track title you wish to view or edit to open the Track Detail page.
If your track includes album art metadata, it will be displayed next to the waveform at the top of the Track Detail page. You can also add album art here or change the album art by hovering over the existing image to bring up the Replace Album Art button.
To access and edit your metadata:
- Scroll to the bottom of the Track Detail page to access the horizontal tabs under the track Tags.
- Click the Metadata tab to open the Metadata panel.
- Make your changes and then click the Save Metadata button.
ReelCrafter allows you to edit the following fields:
- Album
- Album Artist
- Artist
- BPM
- Comment
- Composer
- Copyright
- Disk Number
- Genre
- ISRC
- Title
- Track Number
- Year
Using the bulk metadata editor
The Bulk Metadata Editor provides a quick and efficient way to simultaneously manage metadata for multiple tracks.
To use this feature:
- Select all the tracks you want to edit from the audio library by clicking the checkbox next to each track name. This will activate the Bulk Operations menu.
- Click the Bulk Operations menu and select Edit Metadata.
- Click the Save Changes button to apply the changes to all selected tracks.
You can review and edit the metadata for all selected tracks in the Bulk Metadata Editor. Click the arrows to the left and right of the track name (see screenshot below) to quickly flip through and make individual edits to tracks or apply the same metadata to all selected tracks with a single click.
Copy metadata to all selected tracks
If you want to apply the same metadata to all selected tracks:
- Enter the metadata into the desired field of one of the tracks.
- Click the Copy icon (two overlapping rectangular shapes) to the right of the field. This will copy the entered metadata to the same field for all the selected tracks.
For example, if you have several tracks from the same album, you can enter the album name once and then use the copy function to apply it to all selected tracks.
Metadata uniformity indicator
The Bulk Metadata Editor includes a useful feature to help you understand the uniformity of metadata across your selected tracks:
- If you see the Copy icon next to a metadata field, it indicates that the metadata in this field does not match across all the selected tracks.
- A Double Check icon next to a metadata field indicates that the metadata in this field is the same for all the selected tracks.
This feature can be helpful when deciding which metadata fields to edit or copy across tracks.
Remember to hit the Save Changes button in the bottom right to apply changes to all the selected tracks. The updated metadata will then be attached to the files stored in ReelCrafter.
Remember that the metadata downloaded with a file will always match the current metadata in the ReelCrafter app at the time of download, not when the reel was made. Therefore, any changes to the metadata after sending a reel will be included in the downloaded file.
By properly managing your metadata in ReelCrafter, you can ensure your tracks are correctly labeled and easily identifiable when downloaded by others.
