Downloading audio and video from reels
You control whether recipients can download files from your reels. Downloads are configured per share link, so you can send one link with downloads enabled and another without.

Enabling downloads on a share link
To enable downloads:
- Go to your reel detail page
- Find the share link you want to configure
- Click the row to expand the link settings
- Click the Downloads tab
- Toggle on Allow audio downloads and/or Allow video downloads

What about playlists?
Playlists also have audio download settings. Download controls on playlists require the Professional plan.
Audio download options
When you enable Allow audio downloads, recipients can download all tracks as a ZIP file in MP3 format.
Two additional options are available on the Professional plan:
- Download single tracks – Adds a download icon next to each track so recipients can download individual file
- Download original – Lets recipients download your original files (WAV, AIFF, FLAC, etc.) instead of MP3
What recipients see
When downloads are enabled, recipients see a DOWNLOAD AUDIO button below the playlist. Clicking it opens options to:
- Choose which tracks: "Above Tracks" (current playlist) or "Entire Reel"
- Choose format: MP3 or Original (if enabled)

If you enabled Download single tracks, a download icon also appears next to each track.

Video download options
Toggle on Allow video downloads (Professional) to let recipients download hosted videos from your reel.
Good to know:
- Video downloads only apply to videos you upload to ReelCrafter. Linked videos (YouTube, Vimeo) cannot be downloaded.
- Recipients download the transcoded version (MP4, max 5Mbps, 1080p), not your original file.

Setting the ZIP filename
When recipients download multiple tracks, they get a ZIP file. You can customize this filename in the Downloads tab:
- Find the Filename field under Audio Settings
- Enter your preferred name (e.g., "Project-Name-Demos")
- Click Set filename

Default filename behavior
If you don't set a custom filename, ReelCrafter generates one based on your reel settings:
- Title block visible: Uses your reel title (e.g., "Your Reel Title.zip")
- Title hidden, contact name shown: Uses contact name + date (e.g., "Reel from John Doe 2026-01-26.zip")
- Title hidden, contact name hidden: Uses "A ReelCrafter Reel" + date (e.g., "A ReelCrafter Reel 2026-01-26.zip")
Tracking downloads
When someone downloads a file, it appears in your analytics (Professional). You'll see:
- Which track or video was downloaded
- When it was downloaded
- Which link was used
Download events appear in the Engagement Overview on your Dashboard. This helps you know when a client has grabbed your files—often a good sign they're interested.

Common questions
Can I make only some tracks downloadable?
Not currently. Download permissions apply to all tracks on a share link. If you need different download permissions for different tracks, create separate reels.
Can I require a password before allowing downloads?
Yes, on reels. Set a password in the Security tab (Professional). Recipients must enter the password before they can view the reel or download anything.
Can I let them stream but not download?
Yes. Leave the download toggles off in the Downloads tab. Recipients can listen and watch but won't see any download options.
Why are some download options grayed out?
Download single tracks, Download original, and Allow video downloads require the Professional plan.
What's the difference between "Above Tracks" and "Entire Reel"?
If your reel has multiple playlists (multiple Media blocks), "Above Tracks" downloads only the playlist the button appears under. "Entire Reel" downloads all audio tracks from all playlists in the reel.
What format are audio downloads?
By default, downloads are 256kbps MP3. If you enable Download original (Professional), recipients can choose to download your original file (WAV, AIFF, FLAC, etc.).
What format are video downloads?
Videos are transcoded to MP4 (max 5Mbps, 1080p) when you upload them. ReelCrafter does not store original video files, so recipients download the transcoded version.
Why can't I enable downloads on quick share?
Quick share is designed for fast, simple sharing without extra settings. For downloads, add the track to a reel.
Can recipients download my metadata?
Yes. When recipients download your files, the metadata you've set in ReelCrafter is embedded in the downloaded file. If you embedded metadata before uploading, that's included too.
