Share link security: Passwords and expiration

All ReelCrafter links are private by default. Only people with the link can access your reel, and search engines won't find it. Share link security settings give you additional control: password protection, expiration dates, Search Visibility options, and the ability to temporarily disable links.

Note: Security settings are available for reel share links only. Playlist links don't have a Security tab.

Password protection

Password protection requires viewers to enter a password before they can access your reel.

How do I add a password to a share link?

  1. Expand the share link and go to the Security tab (lock icon)
  2. Enter a password in the Password field

Each share link has its own password setting. You can use different passwords for different links on the same reel, which is useful if you want to track which recipient shared the password.

What do recipients see?

When someone opens a password-protected link, they see a password prompt before the reel loads. They can't view any content until they enter the correct password.

Changing or removing a password

To change a password, enter a new one in the password field. To remove password protection, clear the password field.

Plan note: Password protection requires the Professional plan.

Link expiration

Link expiration automatically disables a share link after a specific date and time. Useful for time-sensitive pitches or limited-time access.

How do I set a link to expire?

  1. Expand the share link and go to the Security tab
  2. Under Link Expiration, pick an expiration date
  3. Set a time and AM/PM

The expiration uses your local timezone. Once you set a date and time, you'll see Expiration Reference Times showing what that time corresponds to in Los Angeles, London, and Sydney. This is helpful when your recipient is in a different timezone.

What happens after a link expires?

After the expiration date and time, the link stops working. Recipients who try to access it see a message that the link is no longer available.

Extending or removing expiration

To extend an expiration, change the date and time to a later value. To remove expiration entirely, clear the date field.

Plan note: Link expiration requires the Professional plan.

Search Visibility

Your reels are private by default and won't appear in search results. ReelCrafter doesn't submit your URLs to search engines.

If you share a link publicly (like on your website or social media), search engines may discover and index it. Crawl control lets you decide whether that's allowed.

Search Visibility options

  • Allow indexing: Allow search engines to index the page if they see the URL somewhere public
  • Allow link following: Allow search engines to follow any links on the reel
  • Allow image indexing: Allow search engines to index images on the reel, so they show up in image searches

If you're using a reel as a public portfolio page and want it discoverable via Google, keep these options enabled. For more details, see Control Search Visibility for Your Shared Reels.

Plan note: Search Visibility requires the Starter plan or higher.

Disabling a link

Every share link has an Active toggle. Turn it off to disable a link without deleting it.

This is useful when you want to temporarily stop access but might reactivate the link later. The link URL is preserved along with all its settings, so you can turn it back on anytime.

Disabled links show "link deactivated" in your link list.

Visual indicators

Your share link list shows icons to indicate which security features are enabled:

  • Lock icon: Password-protected
  • Calendar icon: Has an expiration date

These icons appear next to each link so you can quickly see which links have security settings at a glance.

Common questions

Are there password requirements?

No. Share link passwords have no strength requirements. You can use any password you choose.

Can I see who entered the password?

You can see that a session occurred on a password-protected link, but not what password was entered. For better tracking, create a unique link (with a unique password if desired) for each recipient.

What timezone is used for expiration?

Link expiration uses your local timezone. After you set a date and time, you'll see Expiration Reference Times showing what that time corresponds to in Los Angeles, London, and Sydney, so you can verify it works for your recipient.

Can I set both a password and an expiration on the same link?

Yes. You can enable both security features on any link.

Are there view limits or download limits?

No. ReelCrafter doesn't currently offer view limits or download limits for share links.

What plans include these security features?

Password protection and link expiration require the Professional plan. Search Visibility requires the Starter plan or higher. You'll see these options in the Security tab with an upgrade prompt if they're not included in your plan.

Do playlist links have security options?

No. The Security tab is available for reel share links only. If you need password protection or expiration, share your audio in a reel instead of a playlist.
